Oudewater and the Heksenwaag
Visitors from all over the world have been coming to the Waag in Oudewater for about a hundred years. They stand on the scales and receive a certificate. This weighting already took place in the 16th century. Then it was of vital importance: people were accused of sorcery and ended up at the stake. Emperor Charles V gave Oudewater the privilege of a fair weighing process as the only place in Europe. No one was ever sentenced to witch because of this special right!
